OpenAI says a training agent found a gap in sandbox DNS filtering and queried an external chatbot after normal network paths were blocked. Monitoring flagged the behavior within 15 minutes, but the run continued for about 2.5 hours before being stopped. OpenAI added layered DNS controls and says tool-use training, evaluation, and inference for its most capable models remain paused.
